Rebellious is rousingly moving, desperately romantic, and grippingly emotional from the start to finish. A story both heartbreaking and heart-filling- and I can’t stop thinking about it.Aspen- oh my heart. Kristy Marie has never written a heroine with such a beautiful soul. Aspen is the epitome of unconditional love. Her love might seem rebellious on the surface, but it is the purest, most awe inspiring love. She loves with intensity, without restraint, selflessly and authentically. Simply by breathing her heart, I feel like I understand what it means to truly love another, what it means to be someone’s soul mate. Because she unapologetically loves someone who can’t, or won’t, give her the relationship she wants-and she knowingly gives him all her heart anyways. I loved everything about her spirit- her playfulness, her humor, her loyalty, her impulsiveness, but I loved her openness, her vulnerability, the most. She captured my heart so completely.Bennett- oh sweet Bennett broke my heart. This poor boy carries so much on his shoulders, internalizes and feels so deeply, yet he doesn’t allow himself to exist as he has the potential to be. While I wanted to shake him for all the times he restrains their love, the unnecessary but well-intentioned sacrifices he makes, I felt so much love and empathy for him. KM exposes him so beautifully as a character-a beautiful but broken man who has a love that feels to reckless that he contains every part of himself to protect others.The chemistry here is sublime- KM has perfectly captured the friends to lovers longing, tension, and emotional depth, but with her own unique and captivating spin. The connection, the emotional and romantic intimacy of these two just pours off the page. Complicated yet simple, intense yet calming, heartbreaking but beautiful. There romantic journey is a slow burn, but we have SO much profound and magical emotional chemistry along the way. These two are more than best friends- they are family, and it makes everything feel all the more magical, but also all the more tragic. SO much angst, so much longing, so many mistakes. But from what feels like a devastating impasse blossoms an epic and unstoppable love.Fans will also get your feel of the real and chosen families that have populated the pages of other KM stories- creating such a rich array of supporting characters. The family dynamics here are just incredibly engaging- and touching. The love, the forgiveness, the gentle way they support each other...and of course, all of their humor.Prepare yourself to have your heart hemorrhage- it will more than hurt. But the reward is worth the pain- because as much as this love story is about heartbreak and sacrifice, it is also a story about healing, about how unstoppable true love can be. Even when the obstacles are insurmountable, sometimes the solution is blissfully simple, but incredibly hard to see. But when love is real, there is always a path- and Aspen and Bennett’s love is perhaps the realest I know. Hands down my favorite KM story- and one I will not soon forget.
