#1, Thorn In His Side4 ½ StarsI enjoyed this.Darius and Joshua are good, solid characters. I quickly came to love them as individuals and as a couple. They are written with the fairy tale in mind, and some scenes remind me of that, but they are so much more. They learn and grow together, moving past innocence and delving into the adult areas of trust, passion, and love.The secondary characters are supportive of the storyline and bring to mind a particular animated movie. I like that. The warm and happy feeling I got reading this was reminiscent of how I felt upon viewing the video those many, many times when my children were small. And I love the horse.The villain of the piece is appallingly bad, with no redeeming qualities whatsoever. His part in the tale is over the top evil, and just the mention of him was enough to have me shuddering in disgust. Had the story not been as sweet as it is, I would have been tense the entire time because of him.With his darkness overshadowing everything, the book is surprisingly lighthearted. Darius and Joshua made that happen. Their slow dance into their HEA gave me plenty to hope for as the pages turned.I look forward to more from this author.#2, A Right Royal Affair5 StarsA Right Royal Affair is a sweet, sexy read. There is humor and angst to give it some weight and I enjoyed every moment of it.The characters are well-drawn and easy to love. The sexy times are quite nice and their HEA is believable and satisfying.I look forward to more from this author.#3, Hair Out of Place4 1/2 Stars**Possible Spoilers**I am so glad I took the time to read this. I am usually leery about modern takes on fairy tales, but this is good. I did not feel like I was getting beaten upside the head with Rapunzel references. Hair Out of Place stands on its own.The story grabbed me right away with Raphie’s quirky yet engaging behavior. And it kept my attention when, at the onset, the author didn’t hesitate to throw deadly circumstances at these characters.The bad guys are well written, and I could almost picture them as they went through the motions of attempted assassination. They are serious in their intent, but their execution is much lacking. This leads to some danger and pain, but also some comedic relief, keeping the piece from being too heavy. I was kept on my toes, wondering when the next attack would come.Raphie’s character is what you would expect from someone kept locked up in a tower all his life, minus a lousy attitude. That was one of the very few things I found unbelievable in this tale, because I know I would have an incredibly poor attitude if I was locked up like that. But he is a beautiful person, and I fell in love with him. He is sweet and charming, and just what Griff needs in his life.Griff's character is not what I would expect a seasoned bodyguard to be. I found it hard to believe in his career's efficacy based on some of the book's incidents. The immediate and sometimes overwhelming feelings, both emotional and physical, that he has for Raphie would be a good reason to knock him off his professional game, though. And their connection is strong from the very first. His backstory gives the wheres and whys of his life and outlook, but I wish I could have learned more about him.In all, I thoroughly enjoyed this book, and I look forward to more from this author.
